In 2024, Diamond Construction partnered with a team of skilled subcontractors to complete a meticulous renovation of the Montana State Capitol Senate Chambers. This high-profile project included replacing the entire floor system and carpet within the chambers, as well as refinishing the historically significant senate desks. Each desk was carefully preserved and reinstalled to accommodate modern functionality while honoring its original character.

A major challenge of the project was integrating updated audio/visual and voting systems beneath the new floor system. Every desk required tailored underfloor infrastructure to support individual A/V and voting capabilities—demanding both precision and coordination across multiple trades. Additionally, the crew worked in a historically sensitive space surrounded by priceless artwork, intricate architectural features, and irreplaceable materials. Strict protective measures and a careful approach were essential to maintain the integrity of the space.

The project’s second scope involved retrofitting three public galleries. These updates included the installation of custom railings, the addition of ADA-compliant seating, and the construction of new steps to improve circulation and accessibility for visitors. The upgrades were thoughtfully designed to improve safety and inclusivity while respecting the building’s historic fabric.

All work was completed between legislative sessions, requiring tight scheduling, disciplined execution, and constant communication with state officials to minimize disruption and preserve the building’s function and stature.

Diamond Construction is proud to have contributed to the preservation and modernization of one of Montana’s most iconic civic spaces.
